SUMMARY:
Mitsui E&P USA (MEPUSA), a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Group, is an exploration and production (E&P) company with investments in onshore oil and gas assets located in the United States. The Accounting & Finance department is seeking an Accounting & Finance Assistant, who will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the company, with a focus on both accounting and treasury functions. The Accounting & Finance Assistant will be responsible for assisting with various financial processes, performing routine accounting tasks, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be willing to work in different capacities, and foster a positive team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Process and record accounts receivable transactions.
- Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash transactions.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist in managing daily cash positions.
- Monitor and report on cash flow activities, including incoming and outgoing payments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure proper funding for operational needs.
- Support escheat process.
- Review expense report support for appropriateness.
- Monitor revenue royalty checks.
- Prepare recurring journal entries.
- Assist in analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports as required by management.
- Manage offset storage and support annual reporting.
- Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
- Work closely with other members of the team to achieve departmental goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and support team initiatives.
- Plan Accounting and Finance team building events.
- Perform other duties as necessary or as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of accounting principles.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage projects.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (including Excel and PowerPoint).
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE:
- 0-2 years accounting and finance experience in an oil and gas company or a public accounting firm.
- High school diploma required
- ERP experience preferred (currently using Oracle/P2; transitioning to Quorum).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Fluent verbal and written English skills
