Job Summary
The Certified Ambulance Billing and Coding Specialist will be responsible for accurately managing all aspects of EMS billing and coding. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, optimizing reimbursement, and maintaining the financial health of Menard County EMS.
Responsibilities
- Accurate Coding: Review EMS patient care reports and assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for ambulance services, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Billing Operations: Prepare and submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers, and other payers.
- Claims Management: Monitor accounts receivable, resolve denied claims and follow up on unpaid balances to ensure maximum reimbursement.
- Compliance: Maintain adherence to HIPAA and all applicable state and federal ambulance billing regulations.
- Reporting and Analysis: Generate and analyze billing reports to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with patients, insurance companies, and internal teams to address and resolve billing inquiries.
Required Qualifications
- Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CBCS, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in EMS or ambulance billing.
- Ability to maintain the NAAC Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) certification.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards specific to ambulance services.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Illinois Medicaid, and private insurance billing processes.
- Proficiency in EMS billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Illinois-specific EMS billing regulations and software.
- Background in accounts receivable management within a healthcare or EMS setting.
