What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at Menlo Country Club?
Serve as an attentive lifeguard at an upscale private club, guarding lap pool according to Red Cross and Menlo Country Club guidelines; maintain order and safety in and around the pool.
This is a seasonal job (May-September), with 3-6 hour shifts between 10-7pm weekdays and weekends, and some evenings until 8pm. Approximately 12-25 hours/week (more hours available if desired). Availability during 3/4 holiday weekends is required: Memorial Day, Father’s Day, 4th of July, Labor Day.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Attend training meetings scheduled by Head Lifeguard and Aquatics Manager;
- Enforce water safety rules and regulations;
- Perform rescues, first aid and resuscitation as needed;
- Guard the pool according to Red Cross Lifeguard policies and standards, and Club lifeguard rules;
- Maintain organized pool deck and storage areas, including lifesaving equipment, lesson, team and recreational equipment, and lost and found items;
- Install and remove as necessary for programming: lane lines, steps, flag poles and flags;
- Notify supervisor of disturbances, emergencies and staff performance problems;
- Open and close swimming and pool house facilities;
- Assist supervisors as requested;
- Adhere to Club standards as described in the Employee Handbook.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, or desire to get certified
- Age 16 minimum.
- Ability to swim 500 yards continuously, remain vigilant and act quickly in making rescues and rendering aid.
