About Us DELFI Diagnostics, Inc. (DELFI Diagnostics) is developing next-generation, blood-based tests that are reliable, accessible and deliver a new way to help detect cancer. Employing advanced machine-learning methods to whole-genome sequencing data, the DELFI ("DNA EvaLuation of Fragments for early Interception") platform is built to address the highest-burden health challenges. DELFI Diagnostics prioritizes solutions that have the potential to save lives on a global scale, including for historically underserved populations. DELFI Diagnostics’ platform relies on fragmentomics – the discovery that cancer cells are more chaotic than normal cells and, when they die, leave behind tell-tale patterns and characteristics of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragments. FirstLook Lung, for individuals eligible for lung cancer screening, is DELFI Diagnostics’ first laboratory-developed screening test and can be part of routine blood work. FirstLook Lung uses millions of data points to reliably identify individuals who may have cancer detected through low-dose CT, including early stage disease with a negative predictive value of 99.8 percent. This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. This role is responsible for leading a technical team focused on developing and validating computational algorithms for cancer detection using blood-based omics data. You will lead cross-functional collaboration with assay development teams, clinical data scientists, and software engineers to successfully transition cutting-edge research models into production environments. This position requires a unique blend of technical leadership, scientific expertise, and collaborative skills to advance cancer detection technologies from research concepts to practical applications. What you’ll do Manage and lead a team of data scientists developing and locking computational algorithms to detect cancer from blood-based omics assaysOversee day to day technical work of the team, bringing to bear best practices from statistical / machine learningRead and review the literature, code releases, patents, and hardware / systems updates to keep abreast of current advancements in the fast-moving field of computational biology & MLDevelop solid understanding of in-house assays and workflows, sources of variation, and data pipelinesCollaborate closely with peers in assay development, clinical data science, and software to advance performant models from research into a production environmentWhat you’ll bring to DELFI PhD in Computer Science, Computational biology / Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, or EE8 years’ experience with a wide variety of classical and modern methods used in machine learning and AI (unsupervised, semi-supervised, or supervised learning) as evidenced by strong publication record and / or algorithms released into productionStrong grasp of veridical data science, explainable AI, scientific measurement error, sources of variation, and best practices to control variation either experimentally or algorithmically5 years of industry experience in ML including at least 3 years’ experience in biotech, pharma, or diagnostics with increasing technical or managerial responsibility in a research or product development context5 years expertise programming in Python / R including modern ML frameworks (Tensorflow, Pytorch, or Jax), production compute environments (AWS / Nvidia), and versioning principles for reproducible model-building and evaluationExperience developing research-grade algorithms based on biological data, and collaborating with software teams to prioritize and move research efforts move to production5 of experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment with proven success delivering statistical models, machine learning algorithms and results in pursuit of corporate objectivesExcellent mentor and manager with demonstrated ability to develop the career of junior scientists and engineers to inspire their best workCollaborative, passionate, and driven with a “can-do” attitudeWhat we offer full-time employees 100% paid medical, dental and vision premiums for employees and dependents4 months fully paid parental leaveFlexible Time Off5 day winter break in DecemberA meaningful mission and strong company cultureWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
