Job Summary:

The Regional Director of North America (Longer-Term Service) will oversee the partnerships and program logistics of Mennonite Voluntary Service (MVS), Service Adventure, and other longer-term opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the direct supervisor for Service Adventure unit leaders providing training, support, and resources.
  • Works with Human Resources to recruit, interview, and hire new Service Adventure unit leaders.
  • Provides regular performance feedback and evaluations.
  • Addresses disciplinary concerns with guidance from Human Resources.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide oversight for service programs, including spiritual and programmatic components.
  • Be a consultant to MVS and Service Adventure local partners and Service Adventure unit leaders as they care for participants in personal, faith, and placement related issues.
  • Provide support and resources for unit/participant emergencies and crisis.
  • Report abusive, inappropriate, suspicious, or concerning behavior to Human Resources and the Director of Global Partnerships in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with local congregational leaders of host locations, primarily support committees, to ensure strong local vision. Evaluate congregational ownership, support structures and over-all development of local program.
  • Visit unit locations regularly (ideally once per year) in order to maintain relationships.
  • Provide support and supervision for Service Adventure unit leaders across the country through regular visits and phone/zoom calls.
  • Provide unit resources for learning components and household living for Service Adventure (and MVS as needed).
  • Oversee planning and facilitation of program orientations, participant/leader retreats, trainings, events, and regular meetings.
  • Create and manage the program budgets and interpret data for financial management planning.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Human Resources to support timely and effective participant placement processes.
  • Oversee placement of all eligible participants with local leadership.
  • Give leadership to developing new program units in other locations, including onsite initial visits.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications department to maintain program social media presence, articles highlighting programs and/or participants, and newsletters.
  • Give and receive guidance and counsel as a member of the Global Partnership department.
  • Keep department director informed about program developments and needs through regular check-ins.
  • Collaborate with internal and external work groups as needed.
  • Ensure programs and new initiatives align with organizational values, including intentional focus on embracing diversity, cultural differences, collaboration, and community.
  • Represent Mennonite Mission Network in speaking engagements.
  • Operate in all functions with an awareness of multi-cultural needs and perspectives and an intentionality of implementing anti-racist practices within programs and activities.

  • Experience in team leadership; contributes positively within a team environment.
  • Prior cross-cultural experience helpful.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Computer literacy; willing to learn new software as necessary.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required or significant relevant experience.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • At least two years related experience required.

Travel Requirements:

Will be required to travel at least two weeks per quarter.
