Special Education Paraprofessional Aide

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide assistance to students with developmental disabilities, including autism. This role is crucial in fostering a positive learning atmosphere and promoting the academic and social growth of students.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in implementing IEPs and adapting instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
• Support students in their daily activities, including academic tasks, social interactions, and behavior management.
• Facilitate small group instruction and provide one-on-one support to enhance learning outcomes.
• Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding student performance.
• Collaborate with educators to develop engaging curriculum tailored for students with special needs.
• Utilize techniques such as Montessori methods or American Sign Language as appropriate for individual student requirements.
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills related to special education.

Qualifications

• Experience or training in behavior management strategies is preferred.
• Familiarity with Montessori principles is a plus.
• Knowledge of American Sign Language is beneficial for effective communication with some students.
• Understanding of IEP processes and experience working with preschool-aged children is desired.
• Background in curriculum development tailored for special education settings is advantageous.
• Experience in childcare or working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly autism, is highly valued.
• Proficiency in basic math skills to assist students in their academic pursuits.
