What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laundry Aide position at Menorah Park?
This is a part time position working 25 hours a week, 3pm to 8pm and every other weekend.
Performs routine work in pick-up, sorting, weighing, washing, drying, and returning of all laundered articles to proper departments or patients.
Assignments are performed in accordance with established methods and procedures. Is responsible for delivering daily laundry to designated areas and may perform special project work. Utilizes manual equipment and washing and dryer (extracting machines). Use of hand ironing and/or some mending.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate industrial washers, extractor, and dryers.
Performs pick-up, weighing, sorting, washing of flat items, personal clothing, and delivering to department or patients.
Stores inventory and performs minor cleaning of work area. Performs special projects in laundry area.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to read and write English and comprehend simple, oral, and written instructions. Have a knowledge of industrial washers and dryers is helpful but not mandatory. Must be able to learn: the economical use of laundry soaps and other related chemicals; the proper and safe usage of machines and equipment; the proper methods and procedures of cleaning - both area and fabric.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
stands, walks, stoops, crouches, and climbs stairs most of the working day.
Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50lbs.; push/pull up to 250lbs.
Works in a desirable environment with Home personnel. Is exposed to disease and infection without usage of proper provided apparel.
Must be able to take care of equipment (chemical and work area); prevent unnecessary waste, loss of time, and damage to patients belongings; must be able to organize and plan work in order to get assignment completed within an eight hour day; must be able to accept many petty demands by residents and families; must exhibit standard of cleanliness at all times; have the ability to perform tasks with due consideration for patients and by Nursing Staff, must meet the approved minimal physical and medical standards of the Home; and maintain a neat and clean appearance with no heavy odors and proper footwear.
Incumbent will attend all required in-service Education and training sessions.
