What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Specialist Vets position at Mental Health America of Dutchess County?
Duties: The Peer Specialist will develop and facilitate specialized programming for the SSG Fox Program in collaboration with the Program Manager. The Peer Specialist will participate in person-centered goal planning that incorporates the values and principles of MHADC Veterans Programs as well as the individual’s life areas, such as community connectedness, development of natural resources, physical and mental health wellness, education, employment, and self-help.
General Program Duties:
- Assist with surveys, process registrations, provide appropriate referrals
- Support: Provide safe and non-judgemental environment for members to share their concerns and experiences; provide families/caregivers with information on the program
- Meets with participants on a 1:1 basis in home and/or community to provide Empowerment- Peer Support Services
- Carry a caseload of participants and assist them in meeting their goals and objectives as outlined on their individualized service plan
- Regular coordination with Program Manager; assist with educational programs and training
Qualifications:
- 1. Must be veteran
- 2. High School Diploma or GED required, Associate’s Degree preferred.
- 3. Must get Peer Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire
- 4. Self-starting, motivated individual able to work flexible hours.
- 5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills required.
- 6. An understanding of the population being served, its needs, intervention strategies, culture, and available services.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 per hour
