About POEM
POEM (Perinatal Outreach and Encouragement for Moms), a nationally recognized program of Mental Health America of Ohio, addresses critical gaps in care for pregnant and parenting individuals experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. As a single-entry point of support, POEM offers Peer CareConnect services, including telehealth peer support, care navigation, support groups, mentoring, and direct referrals to perinatal mental health clinicians. Through POEM Rise, these services are tailored and delivered exclusively by and for Black mothers and birthing individuals. Additionally, POEM leads initiatives such as the Ohio Perinatal Mental Health Task Force, perinatal mental health education, and advocacy efforts to advance the perinatal peer workforce.
Position Overview: As the POEM Program Director, you will lead the program by managing budgets, fostering funder relationships, developing and overseeing program projections, writing and managing grants, conducting program reporting and data analysis, and driving continuous quality improvement. You will supervise staff, ensure efficient program operations, and represent the program at state and national levels. Work hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, flexible based upon work demands and in consultation with supervisor; full-time exempt position. Additional program events outside of business hours as needed. This position offers a hybrid work model, combining both remote and in-office responsibilities. Reports to the Executive Director. Responsibilities include:
Oversee Peer CareConnect services
· Supervise the strategic development and management of specialized perinatal Peer Recovery Support services, including system navigation, advocacy, referrals, follow-ups, provider outreach and relationship management (incoming and outgoing), support groups, client and provider databases, and outcome tracking
· Oversee the strategic development and maintenance of POEM Rise, services by and for Black birthing individuals
· Oversee volunteer programming
Manage the Ohio Perinatal Mental Health Task Force
· Ensure funding and sustainability
· Serve as the Administrative Chair, coordinating and supporting the five strategic action teams
· Oversee Perinatal Education Programming
Supervise and support multiple staff positions, including the Senior Program Manager, Education Manager, and Cincinnati Program Coordinator
Advance POEM’s local, state, and national presence
· Serve as the lead for Postpartum Support International (PSI) Ohio Chapter
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with maternal-child and mental health organizations, coalitions, and advocates
· Collaborate with the Marketing team to create and update materials and ensure timely, relevant content for POEM’s social media channels and website
Evaluate Program impact and ensure compliance
· Ensure program performance aligns with organizational goals and grant requirements through evaluation, data analysis, and impact reporting
· Collect, analyze, and report qualitative and quantitative data, including participant stories, to assess impact
· Ensure compliance with funder reporting requirements and evaluation metrics
· Lead strategic planning and structural enhancements to improve effectiveness
Manage budgets, funding, and sustainability efforts
· Develop and manage work plans and budgets aligned with program and organizational objectives
· Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support program sustainability
· Ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with reporting requirements
Other duties
· Serve as an engaged agency leader, fostering collaboration and innovation
· Actively participate in agency and program events and activities
· Represent MHAOhio in collaborative groups as assigned
· Collaborate with program and agency leadership to address challenges, assess personnel needs, and develop strategies for success and growth
· Other duties, within the scope of this position, may be assigned after consultation with the employee and supervisor
Qualifications:
· Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of relevant experience specific to the program services
· Identify as a peer to parenting women/birthing persons with mental health complications
· Strong background in program development, implementation, management, and evaluation
· Proven success in writing and managing multiple grants and funder relationships
· Expertise in budgeting, financial management, and strategic planning
· Proven experience in effective supervision and leadership, with an emphasis on clear communication, trust, respect, strong relationships, and fostering a positive team dynamic
· Proficient with database management and Microsoft Office products, preferably in macOS
· Work well independently and within a collaborative team environment, managing multiple priorities with efficiency and organization while receiving input from many sources
· Outstanding decision-making and problem-solving skills, judgment, and attention to detail
· Preferred qualifications: Identify as a peer to parenting Black women/birthing persons with mental health complications; experience and knowledge of the maternal-child health system and mental health system
Salary Range
$67,000-74,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
