The Senior Director Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all fundraising activities for Mental Health Association Oklahoma (MHAOK). This includes major gifts, planned giving, special events, capital campaigns, grant funding, and more. The Director of Development works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, committee members, and Development Department staff to establish and achieve fundraising goals and initiatives.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cultivate ongoing relationships by meeting with current and prospective donors and supporters.
- Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors through meetings, outreach, and ongoing engagement.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts program, including donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation.
- Oversee grant application processes, including opportunity research, proposal writing, and reporting compliance.
- Manage planned giving and legacy society programs, including donor solicitation, recognition, and acknowledgment.
- Plan and execute capital campaigns and major fundraising initiatives, including strategy development, goal setting, and contribution solicitation.
- Organize special fundraising events, including budgeting, public relations, securing sponsors and committees, and managing logistics.
- Oversee donor acquisition, retention, and recognition through personalized communications, newsletters, annual reports, and acknowledgment letters.
- Collaborate with the Development Committee to establish and monitor the annual resource development plan and fundraising goals.
- Report quarterly on fundraising activities to the Development Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Supervise fundraising operations, including strategies, donor relations, and program goals.
- Implement innovative fundraising techniques and establish partnerships with external organizations to support events.
- Oversee the fundraising database and donor management system.
- Analyze fundraising efforts annually and identify areas for improvement.
- Represent MHAOK at community events and speaking engagements to increase visibility and support.
- Develop and execute long-term fundraising strategies to ensure organizational sustainability.
- Support the Development Committee in recruiting Board members, officers, and advisory council members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience.
- Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising and development.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with donor management systems and fundraising databases.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and represent the organization effectively.
- Experience in planning and executing large-scale fundraising events and campaigns.
- Knowledge of grant writing, planned giving, and major donor cultivation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in climate-controlled office setting, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is unlikely.
- Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment.
- No environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.
- Work requires a flexible work schedule due to internal and external meetings. Occasional travel may be required; must have reliable transportation.
