Duties Description The Office of Mental Health is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Mental Health Program Specialist 1, G-18, position in the Division of State Operated Children’s and Adult Services, Sustained Engagement Support Unit. The goal of this unit is to increase engagement and reduce disengagement in adult serving State Operated outpatient programs. Specific duties of the positions include, but are not limited to: • Initiate reengagement efforts through telephonic outreach to individuals in the community who have disengaged from mental health treatment, elicting barriers to engagement, helping to resolve barriers, offering alternative treatment options;• Collaborate with outpatient providers to ensure quality outreach is provided to reconnect individuals who are disengaging from mental health treatment; • Utilize available data, including MHARS, SFER, PSYCKES, RHIO and criminal justice databases to locate indivduals lost to contact; identify potential reasons for disengagement and risk factors; monitor connections with treatment providers and support services, including incarceration, hospitalizations and emergency room visits.• Facilitate linkage to alternative providers and confirm that successful connection to OMH or alternative provider has occurred.• Participate in monthly facility calls, on site visits/meetings to promote positive relationships with State Operated outpatient programs, provide feedback related to engagement and SES protocols to outpatient staff.• Provide support with various special projects and OMH initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education and two years of professional clinical or administrative experience in a federal or state operated, licensed, certified, or funded mental health program.A master's degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education can substitute for one year of specialized experience.Transfer: Candidates must be permanent in the Mental Health Program Specialist 1, G-18, title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law into the Mental Health Program Specialist 1 or Mental Health Program Specialist Trainee levels.
