The Mental Illness Recovery Center (MIRCI) is a non-profit organization that assists homeless individuals, both adults and youth, with clinical needs and permanent housing and is seeking a Youth Outreach Worker.
Function :
Under general supervision of the Director of Outreach and Benefits, and in coordination with the Outreach Coordinator, engages in daily outreach to those in the Midlands who are homeless to provide assistance with securing food, shelter, clothing, and referrals to other supportive services with a focus on youth / young adults 17 to 24 years old
Employee Classification :
Considered a professional, non-exempt position that is regular full-time.
Guidelines for Distinguishing Characteristics :
Conduct daily street outreach, along with shelter in reach, to develop a relationship that will assist clients with addressing barriers to obtaining services and housing and appropriate health care needs.
Examples of Work :
- Participates in outreach team meetings.
- Provides advisory and consultative services to others within the outreach program of the agency.
- Conducts a VI-SPDAT (Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritization Decisions Assistance Tool) on all new clients to connect them to the proper intervention and services.
- Ensures all program data is accurate and provided to administrative / data staff for entry into HMIS.
- Identification and outreach to homeless persons to determine who is in need of services.
- Provides street case management services with the goal of linking youth to long-term supportive services and housing.
- Works with agencies / organizations to maximize clients' abilities to stabilize housing and improve self-sufficiency.
- Works with MIRCI's Homeless Outreach Team throughout the community to identify and engage youth / young adults who are homeless or at risk.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills :
Necessary Special Requirements :
Must have a valid SC driver's license and a good driving record. Some local travel within the community.
Minimum Requirements :
A bachelor's degree in social sciences and 2 years of experience in a human services program.
