About the role:
Mercato Partners is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Fund Associate to support our fund accounting processes and financial operations. This role is ideal for a proactive and analytical professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with fund structures, and assisting with investor communications.
The Senior Fund Associate will play a critical role in managing capital calls, distributions, financial statement preparation, and reconciliations while working closely with internal teams and external partners. This position requires a strong understanding of fund structures, investment accounting, and financial reporting standards. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the fund accounting process, ensuring accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with fund structures.
- Manage capital calls and distributions, working closely with fund administrators and investors.
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements, including footnotes and disclosures.
- Conduct fund performance analysis, helping to provide insights to senior management and investors.
- Support investor reporting, including preparation of capital account statements and responses to LP inquiries.
- Work closely with the investment and finance teams to support fund operations and portfolio monitoring.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A growth mindset with the ability to learn from others, take direction, and apply new skills quickly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 years of fund accounting experience, preferably within venture capital, private equity, or a fund administrator.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, partnership accounting, and financial reporting for investment funds.
- Experience with capital calls, distributions, waterfalls, and fund structures.
- Proficiency in Excel and fund accounting software (Allvue).
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
