Examples of Duties
Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week.
Duties depend on experience and assignment that may include, but are not limited to the following:
Fair Specific Duties:
Communicate with public renting facilities, vendors, and internal County contacts.
- Assists with various facilities, maintenance or administrative projects.
- Perform a variety of guest relations including responding to questions, giving directions, explaining policies and contracts.
- Assist with livestock prior to fair livestock grew arriving.
- Assists with vendor needs.
- Cleaning livestock pens.
- Set up displays.
- Clean various indoor/outdoor areas.
- Trash pickup and disposal.
- Take tickets for admission to events.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- General landscaping and lawn care.
- Grounds and facility maintenance and upkeep.
Office Duties
Assist office staff with rentals.
- Communicate with the public, vendors and internal County contacts.
- Answer phones.
- Filing.
- Acquire required documents for contracts and rentals.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience dealing with the public.
Essential Functions

Operation of personal computer and other modern office equipment.

Communicate effectively with others in person, in writing, and over the telephone.

Occasional standing, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, climbing.

Lifting – Frequently 5 pounds or less; occasionally 5 to 30 pounds.

Frequent color perception and use of eye/hand coordination.

Occasional use of depth perception and peripheral vision.

Normal dexterity with frequent writing.

Some assignments may require working weekends, nights, and/or occasional overtime.

Occasional exposure to noise; contact with dirt, dust, indoor/outdoor cold and heat.
Exposure to varied weather conditions. - Regular attendance is an essential function.

FAMILY CARE LEAVE
Family Care Leave applies to all employees who work 1250 or more hours in any twelve month period.
HEALTH PLANS AND LIFE INSURANCE
Extra-help employees are not entitled to County-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, Employee Assistance Program benefits and are not eligible to participate in the Deferred Compensation Plan.
JURY DUTY
Extra-help employees are not entitled to pay or receive reimbursement from the County for Jury Duty.
PAID TIME BENEFITS
Extra-help employees are not entitled to paid bereavement, vacation, or holidays.
PAID SICK LEAVE
Extra-help employees are entitled to accrue up to five (5) paid sick days (40 hours) in a 12-month period.
SOCIAL SECURITY
Extra-help employment earnings are not covered under Social Security. Merced County provides an alternate plan - Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) - for extra-help employees who are otherwise not eligible for participation in the County's retirement system.
COMPENSATION/UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE:
The County does provide benefits to those eligible under the State Workers Compensation and Unemployment Insurance statutes.
