License:
Incumbents must obtain a valid Class "B" California driver's license within 120 days of
appointment or be removed from this classification. Incumbent will also be required to possess
and maintain a valid Class "A" California driver's license if training to operate a semi-truck and
trailer rig or operating such equipment on a temporary basis. Positions in this classification
required to apply herbicides must possess valid Applicator Certification.
ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Experience:
One (1) year of road maintenance work and construction experience comparable to that of a Road Maintenance Worker I in Merced County.
License:
Possess and maintain a valid Class "B" California driver's license. Incumbent will be required to possess a valid Class "A" California driver's license if training to operate a semi-truck and trailer rig or operating such equipment on a temporary basis. Positions in this classification
required to apply herbicides must possess Applicator Certification.
ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER III
Experience:
Three (3) years of road maintenance experience, including one (1) year performing duties comparable to those of Road Maintenance Worker II in Merced County which included training and experience in heavy equipment operations.
License:
Possess and maintain a valid California Class "A" driver's license. Positions in this classification applying herbicides must possess a valid Applicator Certification.
IDENTIFIED SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS IN THIS CLASSIFICATION WILL BE SUBJECT TO PRE-EMPLOYMENT, POST-ACCIDENT, REASONABLE SUSPICION, RANDOM AND RETURN-TO-DUTY DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE COUNTY OF MERCED DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING POLICYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operate a variety of heavy road maintenance and construction equipment including trucks and backhoes in cutting and backfilling large trenches, patch trucks, water trucks, wheel tractor, rotovator, rollers and mowers in road maintenance and construction projects.
- Perform a variety of heavy physical including the operation of equipment, digging and backfilling of trenches, clearing of brush, limbs, and trees for right-of-way, and debris from culverts and ditches.
- Perform general maintenance and makes minor repairs on equipment assigned.
- Pave, patch, repair roads, construct and maintain bridges.
- Load and rake and shovel asphalt, operate a jack hammer in road repair.
- Straighten and replaces road signs, clean drainage ditches and catch basin.
- Work on painting crew to stripe/stencil roads on temporary relief assignments.
- May assist in the operation of the spray truck to apply herbicides to roadsides.
- Keep time and equipment records.
- Operate caterpillar tractors with carryall scrapers in cutting and filling earth work to exact engineering grade stakes and truck-mounted rotoboom cranes and self-propelled crawler cranes in road maintenance and construction projects.
- Use draglines in the loading of road materials on trucks, motor graders in mixing and laying out road mix and in grading road base to exact engineering grade.
- May act in a lead capacity to oversee and distribute work to Road Maintenance Workers.
