Overview of Responsibilities: The classroom teacher shall prepare, present and evaluate material designed for pupil learning experiences. The teacher shall develop, enforce, and interpret policies of student behavior to students, parents and community. The teacher shall execute board and administrative policies within the classroom and at school-related activities. Classroom teachers shall keep various class attendance records, grade books and other records to document student progress and attendance. The teacher shall work with parents, principals, Director of Pupil Personnel, Instructional Supervisor, fellow teachers and others in helping pupils to learn and develop.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES BASIC FUNCTION: The classroom teacher shall prepare, present and evaluate material designed for pupil learning experiences. The teacher shall develop, enforce, and interpret policies of student behavior to students, parents and community. The teacher shall execute board and administrative policies within the classroom and at school-related activities. Classroom teachers shall keep various class attendance records, grade books and other records to document student progress and attendance. The teacher shall work with parents, principals, Director of Pupil Personnel, Instructional Supervisor, fellow teachers and others in helping pupils to learn and develop. SPECIFIC NEEDS: 1. Prepares lesson plans, objectives, and instructs pupils in various grades or specific subject areas. 2. Develops teaching outlines based on appropriate curriculum guides, Kentucky Core Content, Kentucky Program of Studies and compliance with NCLB requirements. 3. Uses various levels of material and teaching techniques to instruct all levels of pupil ability and progress. 4. Keeps abreast of new trends, methods and subject development in the field of teaching and / or subject matter which will benefit both teacher and student. 5. Provides evaluation and referral of students to the proper program for optimum learning. 6. Participates in the planning and evaluation of school programs and activities. 7. Participates in business and professional activities of the school faculty. 8. Provides for the care and protection of school property. 9. Provides for the safety, health and general welfare of the students. 10. Watches for and reports signs of child abuse and / or neglect. Page 2 of 3 11. Keeps an approved record of each student’s courses, grades, attendance and other appropriate facts as required by local, state or federal requirements. 12. Refers students for guidance and / or counseling services when deemed necessary. 13. Maintains discipline in the classroom, during school events and in / on school property. 14. Performs individual, small group or large group instruction. 15. Participates in extracurricular activities for the benefit of students or school. 16. Enforces a course of study and use of authorized textbooks as prescribed by laws of the State of Kentucky and adopted policies of the Mercer County School System. 17. Participates in the planning, execution and evaluation of professional development activities. 18. Participates in student / parent counseling sessions or activities as necessary. 19. Familiarizes self with laws, directives and system policies relating to teachers, students, curriculum and school-related activities. 20. Assigns grades for pupil progress and makes recommendations as to the promotion or retention of students. 21. Prepares such reports as required by the statutes of the Commonwealth of Kentucky or the rules and regulations of the Mercer County Board of Education. 22. Attends such meetings and conferences as required by the state, or directed by the principal or superintendent. 23. Attends staff or departmental meetings and serves on committees to promote the total program of the Mercer County Schools. 24. Plans and implements “safety programs” and participates in regular drills pertaining to fire, tornado or other hazards. 25. Reports potential safety hazards to appropriate personnel and / or immediate supervisor. 26. Participates in the system for notification of parents concerning student discipline, health or academic problems. 27. Provides required documents relating to health, certification and attendance as required by local, state and federal laws and policies. 28.
