What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Mercer Co. Elementary?
BASIC FUNCTION:
Teach various subjects and basic skills to students who have physical, learning, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and/or other disabilities.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assess students’ skills and determine their educational needs; adapt lessons and materials to meet students’ needs; develop, with a team, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student; plan activities that are specific to each student’s abilities; teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one; implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress; update paperwork throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals; discuss students’ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators
KNOWLEDGE OF:
IDEA Regulations and special education policies, programs and procedures related to special education; state and federal laws and regulations regarding special education records, due process
ABILITY TO:
Maintain organized and accurate records, multi-task, work well with others in a collaborative setting
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for Special Education
