Position Summary
We are hiring an Adult Dairy/Calf & Heifer Specialist to focus on dairy feed sales in the Northwest and Central Ohio. This role focuses on selling feed and all related products that will optimize Heartland Feed Sales Market share and savings, improve the efficiency, and help to achieve Heartland’s mission and goals.
Role requires regular travel to our customers in Northwest and Central Ohio, with the option for remote work on designated days.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Calling on dairy producers to evaluate existing feeding programs, and to recommend and assist them with their nutritional programs.
- Selling/advising calf nutrition of young calf and heifers (colostrum, milk, milk replacer, starter, & grower).
- Selling/consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) with the end goal of selling feed programs and growing sales and market share. This includes developing new prospects and making sales cold calls.
Required Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field strongly desired.
- Candidates with a pending bachelor’s degree or candidates who possess proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
- Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to dairy producers in the market.
- Competent in providing accurate feeding and management recommendations.
- Candidate should have an understanding of dairy, current management practices and nutritional guidelines, general market, and industry knowledge.
- Work/life experience in management and care of dairy animals.
- Strong computer skills, MS Office, ability to be trained on ration balancing software, NRC software, etc.
Required Competencies & Other Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication along with strong organization and time management skills.
- On farm interaction, in all-weather types at producer facilities for a walk through, and animal evaluations.
- Ability to network in the industry to put producers together to earn additional business and relationships.
Preferred Experience & Education:
- Strong background and previous professional experience with dairy production.
- Previous sales experience desired.
Percentage of travel:
- Daily travel in the assigned geography.
