Truck Dispatchers (Coordinators) act as a communication point to the truck drivers; effectively overseeing the distribution of products to and from customers. As a Truck Dispatcher, you will be involved in multiple facets of the transportation process.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for matching loads with drivers, always keeping their unique preferences and needs in mind. A big part of your day will involve building trust and maintaining strong relationships with drivers, helping them understand the benefits of accepting certain loads or routes while ensuring the best outcomes for everyone involved.
You’ll need to stay ahead of market trends and respond to fluctuating rates, using that knowledge to identify the most valuable opportunities. Success in this role requires staying calm under pressure, thinking critically, and confidently taking action with minimal supervision. Your goal is to save drivers time, empower them to make the best business decisions, and ensure trucks are positioned for maximum profitability—all while fostering an environment of trust and collaboration.

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm
Job duties often include:
- Coordinates scheduling of vehicles and drivers for meeting overall transportation requirements.
- Receive customer calls, records information, and enters data into software system.
- Resolves schedule problems (i.e., stop requests, updating maps, driver absenteeism, out-of-service vehicles, etc) ensuring all routes are covered.
- Receive and dispatch orders for products or deliveries.
- Prioritize calls according to urgency and importance.
- Monitor the route and status of truck drivers to coordinate and prioritize their schedule based on their preferences.
- Provide truck drivers with information about orders, traffic, obstacles and requirements.
- Compiles a variety of data for developing reports, information and mandated requirements.
You are expected to plan routes and schedules; ensuring the overall coverage required to meet the transportation scheduling demands; and evaluating, resolving and/or recommending solutions to incidents, complaints and/or accidents.
Interpersonal Skills and Knowledge a Truck Dispatcher Should Know
As a Truck Dispatcher, you schedule and dispatch orders while providing excellent customer service to ensure customer satisfaction, minimize costs and promote company sales. The ability to stay organized with materials and time is essential. The need for organization is due to the nature of managing many different projects and people at once. You will resolve most customer service issues by taking independent actions and calculated risks without supervision. One of the most critical skills is the ability to efficiently answer and respond to questions regarding projects and promptly respond to customer needs. You must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills used to effectively convey information with a clear understanding to others.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Basic experience using computers. Experience using dispatch and trucking software preferred.
