What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Driver position at Mercer Transportation?

Mercer's Yard Driver is responsible for the stationing and retrieving of all trailers between the possession of our drivers and the organization. The Yard Driver will also inspects equipment prior to and after use to document any lost and/or damaged equipment.
Job duties often include:
- Performing trailer relocation/movement in support of the Trailer Program.
- Parking trailers on campus to ensure maximum quantities may be stored on site (requires constant trailer reorganization).
- Providing customer service to all new and existing drivers. May require searching for trailer with newly recruited driver or leading drivers where to drop trailers upon arrival.
- Requires communicating with the vendor on repair status.
- Coordinating unloading of stacked trailers to be parked.
- Performing pre and post shift inspection of trucks
- Documenting returned trailer condition.
- Leading the trailer decal program moving trailers into position for decal application.
- Maintaining active trailer inventory of all trailer assets and necessary parts/support items on site (requires daily trailer audit/inventory).
- Driving truck/trailer thru Mercer’s Inspection Bay or where requested by Trailer Program department.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Class A CDL and Active Drivers’ License
Essential Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must have a full range of motion and dexterity to frequently climb in and out of equipment
- Physical exertion, including, but not limited to, walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting up to 90 pounds
- Frequent exposure to the outside elements 100% of the time.
