Summary
Performs duties to maintain general physical security of the campus. Routinely reports matters that would affect the security of the campus to the Chief of Security. Performs physical inspection of all buildings on campus. Requires the ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Make two or more physical inspections of all buildings on campus during their shift.
- Patrol the front and back campus. Check for any vehicles or pedestrians after hours and determine if presence is acceptable.
- Responding to any emergencies and acting as liaison with local emergency response units.
- Contributing to a community environment by maintaining a visible and approachable presence and engaging with students and others on campus.
- Contributing to the development and refinement of procedures, and overall smooth operations, within the general orders of the Campus Safety Department.
- Participating in drills and other emergency preparation activities.
- Report any unusual student activity to the Dean of Students.
- Prepare a security report showing any of the following incidents: safety hazards, fire hazards, exits blocked, emergency lights out, lights left on, doors left open or unlocked, windows open, property damaged either by wear or by vandalism, vacant house checks, thefts, fire alarms, trespassers or suspicious activity or any other incidents requiring attention.
- Submit work orders, as needed.
- Assist in traffic control during school events.
- Help conduct fire drills.
- Other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively in written form, able to demonstrate basic proficiency with a computer, and fully capable using email, work order, and timekeeping systems on school computers.
- Must be able to deal with physical and emotional stress in normal and unpredictable situations.
- Able to understand and follow standard operating and enforcement procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate.
- Current driver's license.
- Law enforcement experience preferred.
- Must be able to successfully complete Act 235 and Act 67 training.
- Must be 21 years of age.

Environment: Must be able to perform work in an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to inclement weather.
Physical: Must be able to walk for prolonged periods of time, sit, bend, stoop, and grasp. Must also be able to walk up and down stairs and run when needed. Requires infrequent lifting up to 40 lbs. Must be able to operate an automobile. Must be able to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
