Route Sales/Food Service Representative

Position: Foodservice Representative

Reports To: Foodservice Director

Pay Range: $45,000 - $60,000

Location: Central Eastern Virginia

Position Summary

The Foodservice Representative will work closely with our customers to reach their goals and objectives as it relates to foodservice promoting the sales and profits of this category through Merchants Grocery Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Work closely with each Territory Rep to develop target customers and respond to leads.

· Develop a relationship with assigned customers.

· Create a regular call frequency on foodservice customers depending on needs.

· Demonstrate and sell foodservice products and programs.

· Consult with customers on menu preparation and food costs.

· Develop a target list/pipeline of new customer development with Food Service Director’s support.

· Work closely with the purchasing department on customer needs.

· Participate in all sales/marketing functions as it relates to company business.

· Promote a positive attitude and professionalism within the company.

· Work closely with operations and management regarding sales needs.

· Must be able to meet company goals and objectives.

· Other responsibilities as required.

· Visit accounts regularly with a minimum number of visits as outlined by Director of Foodservice.

Qualifications

· Education and/or Experience

o Minimum College graduate, associate’s degree and prior food service specialist knowledge a plus. Minimum three years food service experience preferred. Selling skills are essential.

o Must be ServSafe Certified – We can train in house.

· Knowledge

o Knowledge of food, Food ingredients and non-food products, their application and preparation.

· Skills

o Must have the ability to work and communicate with various cultures.

o Highly motivated and responsible self-starter with the ability to work under pressure.

o Service and customer oriented and able to solve problems.

o Must possess good oral, written communication, and mathematical skills.

o Must be computer and mobile technology literate.

o Must be able to pass a background check

o Must be able to be insured with MVR records

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, occasionally exposed to vibration.

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

· Daily business travel requires in and out of vehicle; meet customers at restaurant and kitchen areas and involve situations such as wet floors, stairs, heat, cold, and abnormal conditions.

Work Conditions

The work conditions for this job are:

· Maintain and keep in good condition and appearance motor vehicle that is owned by Merchants Grocery Company.

· Maintain an acceptable motor vehicle driving record. Must have a positive score.

· Position is privy to information that may be sensitive in nature and/or proprietary and knowledge of confidential information must not be divulged competitors.

· Maintain the computer, phone, and any other technology devices to protect them from damage and or abuse.

· All sales personnel vehicles are tracked via GPS technology.

Hours of Work

· Exempt position. May be required to attend functions outside the normal business hours to promote and support the sales department and company’s goals and objectives. Some travel may be required.

· The expectation of the company will be that a minimum of 5 days per week and 40 hours will be worked on a regular basis. The workload will determine how many hours are necessary to complete the job. It is expected that sales personnel will work normal business hours to accommodate customer needs.
