What are the responsibilities and job description for the Local Driver/Warehouse Assistant position at MERCHANTSMARKET?
Job Summary:The Driver drives daily and delivers products safely to our customers from our warehouse to designated customer sites. Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, cycle counting, and order picking.
Essential Functions:• Works with the Route Manager, Quality Control Manager, and Warehouse Manager to schedule loads, protect inventory, and improve the receiving and dunnage process.• Maintains general condition and care of equipment. Document damage, wear, or mechanical issues.• Reports and documents all accidents and damage to the appropriate manager. Assist in investigating incidents.• Works with the managers to maximize productivity based on expected shipments, load requirements, and pickup schedule.• Ensures product is loaded according to supplier standards.• Positions trucks for loading and unloading; secures equipment, including all vehicles, by removing keys and locking doors.• Maintains a regular year-round truck wash schedule of freight equipment.
Required Education and Experience: • CDL-B Valid driver’s license, but CDL-A is preferred, as well as a clean driving record.• High school diploma or GED or equivalent years of experience.• Preferred at least one year of previous experience as a delivery driver.• Preferred working knowledge of DOT processes.• Preferred prior delivery experience, preferably in a food distribution environment.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability.
