Your Role:
The GMP Controls & Instrumentation Engineer at MilliporeSigma in St. Louis, MO is a critical engineering role that is responsible to provide Control and instrumentation design and support for assigned projects with an emphasis on support of building management systems. They will support multiple areas within the Cherokee site and site capital projects. Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead Siemens Building Management System (BMS) programming (Insight, InfoCenter, Desigo), diagnostics and troubleshooting for GMP facilities and systems; align with St. Louis Hub overall Siemens network configuration and strategy.
- Manage all relevant specifications for the qualified site Siemens BMS components (User, functional and design specifications) including system drawings.
- Review automation capital projects and provide guidance to project teams to ensure BMS equipment selected is in line with established platform standards (hardware, software revisions, documentation, drawings, etc.)
- Assist with automation troubleshooting including instrumentation, controllers, and HMIs, in conjunction with established corporate procedures.
- Work with IT to establish a DMZ or other network segregation strategies.
- Resolve quality problems and identify system issues with multi-functional teams.
- Provide escalated technical process control support, including troubleshooting digital and analog input-outputs, diagnosing communication issues, and uploading/downloading control programs.
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being executed and process improvement initiatives are efficient.
- Establish standards and manage process control utilizing Six Sigma/Lean methodology.
- Supports safety, energy, and environmental initiatives.
- Professionally and systematically guide the refinement of the preventive maintenance function on controls systems.
- Project deliverables include control and project estimates, specifications of equipment, controls and instrumentation design review, material and equipment purchase requisitions, drawings, construction bid packages, and qualification of control systems.
- Develop work relationships with site personnel to ensure maintenance and project objectives are met. Address technical difficulties and minimize the disruptive effects of maintenance or projects on production.
- Review and advise on creating and revising equipment standards and ensure that critical spare parts are identified.
Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline.
- 5 years of experience in controls or automation engineering role.
OR
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 9 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing controls engineering role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Chemical/pharmaceutical maintenance and/or project experience.
- Working knowledge of GMP standards.
- Proficient in building management system (BMS) programming, such as Siemens Insight and/or Desigo, including configuration of points, alarm configuration, trend definition, and reporting.
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV or other DCS and Rockwell/Allen-Bradley SLC500 and ControlLogix PLCs, in addition to other process automation equipment such as VFDs, instrumentation, and discrete control devices.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Knowledge of data integrity and computer system validation requirements per CFR 210 Part 11, Annex 11.
- Knowledge of common electrical codes/standards (NFPA 70E/497/499, NEMA, NEC, ISA 88/95, etc.)
- Ability to read/review/redline relevant electrical and P&ID drawings utilizing ISA symbology.
