Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Device Product and Process Development (DPPD) team at Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD). As a key member of this team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing innovative drug delivery systems. Your expertise in mechanical engineering, particularly in the areas of device characterization and design, will be invaluable in helping us bring life-saving treatments to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop novel drug delivery systems using cutting-edge analytical instruments and methods
- Conduct thorough technical interrogation of various drug delivery technology platforms to identify risks and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical engineering principles into device development
- Utilize 3D CAD software (e.g., Solidworks) and geometric tolerancing techniques to optimize device performance
- Develop and implement robust testing and troubleshooting strategies to validate device functionality
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field required
- Minimum 4 years of experience in device design and engineering evaluation
- Fluency in structural finite element analysis (FEA) and solid testing and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with mechanical testing, imaging, and measurement equipment and techniques (e.g., mechanical testing, surface characterization, x-ray computed tomography, rheometry, microscopy)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with medical device development and understanding of Design Controls (21 CFR 820.30)
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971, EU MDR)
- Knowledge of Design Verification (DV) strategies and mechanical tests with validations
