Job Description:
The Principal Scientist-Team Lead is responsible for providing direct technical leadership and management for a team of scientists (3-5) that are embedded with the chemical biotechnologies group within the Process Research and Development, Enabling Technologies Organization.
The team provides analytical expertise that ranges from high throughput chromatography and mass spectrometry and advanced bioanalytical assays to support enzyme discovery, evolution, and manufacturing efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver analytical methodologies and platforms that may accelerate the pace of the discovery, evolution, and manufacturing of enzymes.
- Represent the function at internal governance and CMC teams within the new product development and commercialization (NPDC) framework.
- Partner with the DRM lead in the areas of scientific strategy, proactive resource planning, and allocation to maximize impact and talent development of scientists under his/her direct supervision.
- Maintain a strong external network across the academic community.
- Advance an internal culture of scientific excellence and collaboration.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Chemical Biology or related field with 7-10 years of relevant industry experience.
- OR MS degree with 10 years of relevant industry experience.
- Direct people management or scientific supervisory experience.
- Formal training and/or hands-on experience in high-throughput analytical and bioanalytical methodologies including various forms of chromatographic techniques (HIC, IEX, SEC) and hyphenated techniques including (LC-MS/MS, LC-CAD/ELSD, SEC-MALS), SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, and other affinity-based platforms.
- A track record of scientific excellence demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver complex objectives under challenging timelines in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to work in a matrix team environment with cross-functional interactions.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience working within CMC frameworks within the bio-pharmaceutical industry.
- Ability to set and drive scientific strategy.
- Foundational experience in enzymology and protein engineering.
