We work in the local plant connected to our global manufacturing network to ensure the highest quality of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
The Sr. Maintenance Scheduler is a member of the Engineering, Maintenance and Site Services (EMSS) team providing support to the Durham sites. This includes Energy Center, Vaccines Manufacturing and Bulk Facilities (B101, B102, B130, B150 and B160), Quality Labs, Maintenance and Material Storage Facility (MMSF) and Teknika Facilities. This support position will focus on scheduling maintenance execution, SAP Data stewardship and assisting with successful shutdown planning and implementation with associated department(s).

General Profile
- Individual contributor role working with maintenance departments with limited oversight to support tactical (day-to-day) operations and a focus on strategic (long term) operations.
- Contributes to the performance and results of the department(s).
- Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
- Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives limited guidance from manager.
- Provides planning and scheduling guidance to mechanics, technicians and colleagues for maintenance activities on production and utility equipment in manufacturing and lab buildings.
- Works as a liaison between Engineering, Maintenance, Production and other Site Business Partners
- Tracks completion of daily maintenance operations and daily priorities and schedules project/work meeting the criteria established by site objectives and maintenance metrics.
- Support major maintenance, production, and utility equipment related projects by planning path forward for least disruption to plant operations
- Tracks master shutdown schedule for all maintenance and calibration activities
- Coordinates maintenance activities which require external vendors for shipment and on-site work
- Consults with maintenance managers to create detailed scheduling based on anticipated available headcount for future shifts
- Forecasts labor and materials needs for routine scheduled work throughout the year
- Provides analysis on labor usage and material consumption to drive PM performance improvements
- Supports departmental shutdown meetings. Attends site daily shutdown meetings ensuring department owned activities are tracked and completed
- Identifies revisions, deletions, or additions to the calibration and maintenance programs to ensure that calibration and maintenance activities are completed in accordance with established safety, GMP, and calibration/maintenance procedures
- Update maintenance procedures to ensure scheduling process can be easily integrated with difficult operations schedule.
- Must be willing to learn multiple CMMS system platforms and route engineering change requests through CMMS system.
- Lead/Support Digital Initiatives to achieve paperless goal
- Expand knowledge into other systems, capable of managing change in the pursuit of continuous improvement
- The successful candidate must have strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving. The successful candidate should be able to examine an issue from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, automation, equipment, process, and people) in order to best understand and identify root cause
Education Requirement
- Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Science or related field and 4 years of experience in a production and/or calibration and/or maintenance background OR
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Science or related field and 6 years of experience in a production and/or calibration and/or maintenance background
- Strong planning, scheduling, and time management skills
- Familiarity of regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP manufacturing operations
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience with GMP compliant calibration and maintenance databases
- CMMS/ERP experience related to plant maintenance and spare parts procurement systems
- Experience with formal problem-solving techniques, such as root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), and/or Lean Six Sigma tools.
- Familiarity of “World Class” maintenance practices is paramount (e.g. PMs, RCM, PdM, etc.)
- Experience in problem solving and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with cGMPs and vaccine regulatory requirements.
- Project management, including change control and equipment qualification
- SAP experience related to plant maintenance and spare parts procurement systems
- cGMP experience in a sterile, bulk or finished pharmaceutical environment
- Technical writing and deviation investigation experience
- Mechanical functionality and reliability knowledge (asset management)
- Microsoft Project and/or Orchestrate experience
- Experience working in a clean room or GMP/regulated manufacturing environment
- Fluent with SAP, Maximo or another computerized maintenance management system
