We are looking for a mid-level to senior technologist with exposure to North American power generation industry who is passionate about technology and has experience supporting power generation management applications.
The successful candidate is adept at partnering with end-users to log issues, analyse issues, provide tactical/strategical solutions and ultimately deliver tangible business value & benefit.
This role will report into the Head of Application Support – North America working on GMS and related systems critical for the real time operations of our power generation assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain SCADA configuration comprising RTU/FEP/ICCP config, setpoints, analog/digital control points etc.
- Setup GMS calculations, AGC control logic and calculations
- Investigate data discrepancies and telemetry issues impacting dispatch
- Implement market (ISO) changes and build/modify advanced displays
- Setup and maintain external data interfaces
- Create and maintain one-line diagrams
- Monitor connectivity between RTU, GMS and ICCP links and fix issues pro-actively.
- Maintain system and process documentation.
- Manage user access, roles and permissions.
- Mange software updates and patches ensuring that the system is NERC compliant.
- Communicate with stakeholders/vendors as required: inform/follow-up for incident progress, notify them of impending changes or agreed outages
- Fast turnaround of client requests.
- Log and prioritize support tickets in the ticketing system.
- Improve client service, perception, and satisfaction.
Technical Expertise
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience of managing a Generation Management System (GMS).
- Strong preference for experience with the Hitachi GMS system
- Deep understanding of SCADA configuration on the platform
- Proficient in setting up GMS calculations including AGC
- Experienced with building advanced displays and maintaining one-line diagrams
- Proficient in Linux shell scripting
- Good knowledge of programming in one of C/C /Python.
- Knowledge of DNP3, Modbus and ICCP protocols.
- Knowledge of data management solutions like Aveva PI.
- Good understanding of ISO power markets, especially Ercot and PJM.
- A strong grasp of power systems is an advantage.
- Knowledge of NERC CIP standards and requirements as related to managing GMS systems.
- Good understanding of databases and skilled at analysing and writing SQL scripts.
- Experience of working with AI based tools is a distinct advantage.
Non-technical Skills
- Flexible to work shift patterns on Rota including on-call support on nights and weekends.
- Fluent in English. Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders both internal and external.
- Ability to work in time-critical situations and manage/prioritize multiple requests/projects independently.
- Analytical and critical thinking with ability to problem solve complex issues
- Experience of working on trading floor and supporting real-time traders during peak hours is preferred.
- Self-motivated and able to multitask.
- Team player who acts as a mentor to junior team members.
- Adapt to changes quickly and communicate effectively.
