Grinder - Manufacturing

Grinds, files, or sands surfaces of metal items such as frames, covers, decorative components, and sub-assemblies to achieve precise dimensions, smooth surfaces, and exceptional finishes.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual grinding machines to remove excess material from workpieces according to established specifications
• Examines and feels surface of metal items to detect defects such as dents, scratches, burrs, or sharp edges; removes dents and fills uneven surface with appropriate filler
• Smooths or polishes surface of metal items to specified finish
• Follow technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to achieve required dimensions and tolerances
• Prepare workpieces for grinding by cleaning, securing, and positioning parts
• Ensure proper clamping and alignment to prevent distortion during the grinding process
• Inspect ground components for defects, irregularities, and surface imperfections, making necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards
• Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures when operating grinding machinery and handling materials
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe working environment
• Regular use of software to track results of production

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in operating manual grinding machinery
• Familiarity and experience with various grinding techniques
• Attention to detail and quality-oriented mindset
• Ability to read and understand work instructions and to enter data into company software
• Basic math skills
• Ability to read blueprints
• Knowledge of measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers
• Awareness of and willingness to adhere to manufacturing safety standards

Work Schedule:

• Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear, or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional loud noises. A representative wage range is included in this posting. Final wage will be based on experience.
