JOB TITLE: Director of Advancement
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Advancement will create a comprehensive development operation for the Mercy Center for Women, including implementation of the annual giving and communications programs.
PROFILE: The Mercy Center for Women is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy and is committed to enhancing the dignity of each person we serve through healing of body, mind and spirit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Identifying, cultivating and soliciting annual gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations to fund capital improvements, create scholarship opportunities and support ongoing programs
o Provide stewardship in recognition of donor philanthropy
o Provide for on-going promotion of planned giving opportunities
o Produce donor materials for print and web; manage and plan advancement events
o Lead external relationship building with a variety of constituencies; working with volunteers and others to identify linkage, ability and interest of major gift prospects; assisting academic leadership in efforts to identify sources and prepare proposals to government, corporations, foundations and granting agencies
o Plan and administer the department's annual operating budget
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
o Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of five years progressively responsible fundraising experience in a non-profit development/fundraising environment preferred
o Expertise and a record of success in developing positive, long-term donor relationships and soliciting major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations
o Demonstrated ability to compose strong, clearly written material, including general correspondence, grant proposals and major reports
o Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
o Team-oriented with proven skills in motivating, empowering, and providing direction
o Strict adherence to confidentiality of data
o Initiative to develop new systems, and work independently and entrepreneurially
o Ability to relate with staff and volunteers
o Familiarity with donor database applications
o Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
