About Mercy Connections Inc
We are a 501(c)3, African non-profit organization located in Beaverton, Washington County; established in 2018. We provide culturally responsive services to West Africans, other Blacks, and other underserved population in the Tri-counties, Oregon. We provide case management, conduct outreach/health education, and services as a point of resources connection.
Role and responsibilities
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who are trusted members of and/or have a close understanding of the community they served. This trusting relationship enables them to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.
We are looking for someone who has experience in community work and understand Mercy Connections mission of serving African and other communities by connecting them to services. The person in this role will work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve the function of this position. They will work with THW supervisor/program director and funder to oversee areas including organizing, conducting community event, attending and facilitating meetings and much more. Through collaboration with members of the team, they will develop an outreach strategy to increase the organization’s impact to reach a variety of diverse communities of the organization.
You will also work directly with community members/neighbors, families, partners and sometimes healthcare personnel to support African community and others. You will provide services and sometimes connect them to the appropriate resources as needed, and possess an understanding of confidentiality, accountability, trust and teamwork.
A successful candidate will have an understanding or knowledge in Africans cultural values and beliefs of the community. They will be Connected, Outgoing, Self-Motivated, Detail-Oriented, Community-Driven, and most importantly Passionate about Mercy Connections’ mission.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain a calendar of outreach events opportunities, including City/County, Community, Health Fair, organized by organization and by other partners
- Set sustainable goals, promote projects, and engage with the other community and partners
- Prepare and keep accurate records and reports, including outreach related financial expenditures.
- Support navigation and advocacy for various essential social services and resources (e.g., access to food, housing support)
- Make monthly reports and be available for bi-weekly staff in person meetings
- Conduct social media posting to promote the work of Mercy Connections to connect with all communities
- Support organizational record keeping requirements. Organized and support community health events and outreach
Qualifications & Skills
- Detail-Orientated: With the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
- Communication skills: Both verbal and in writing communication is important to this role. It will help you ask important questions and communicate needs as you connect with your team, persuade donors, and the community.
- Project Management skills: To help you manage scheduling, other people and coordinating locations for events as well as vendors
- Administrative skills: This skill is essential to help you handle paperwork organize and in coordinating events, and project accounting.
- Problem Solving skills, to help with your decision making, conflict resolution and people management
- Self-starter/motivator: Be ready to step outside of your comfort zoon to explore new activities independently.
Requirements
I. Must have a driver license (Required)
II. Must possess knowledge of Mercy Connections' programs and services to effectively address grant requirements
III. Prior Experiences; 1-2 years of experience within non-profit outreach and engagement activities.
IV. Knowledge of social media and other basic connecting platform
V. Demonstrate proficiency in basic skills in commonly used technology platforms including Microsoft Office, Google tools, and zoom, Microsoft Office applications for efficient documentation, reporting, and communication purposes.
Working Conditions
This position will involve extended period of working at a computer. It includes both online and in person meetings and/or training using audio and video. Generally, the schedule will be Monday – Friday, normal office hours, with occasional travel, weekend and evening hours for outreach events and activities.

Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
