The Billing Specialist plays a critical role in managing claims processing, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up. This position ensures accurate and timely submission of insurance claims, resolves denials, and works closely with insurance companies, providers, and patients to maximize revenue recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance Billing & Claims Management
- Accurately submit dental insurance claims (electronic and paper) for multiple locations
- Review claims for coding accuracy and proper documentation before submission
- Monitor outstanding claims and follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or denied claims
- Correct and resubmit denied or rejected claims promptly
Payment Posting & Reconciliation
- Post insurance payments and patient payments to accounts accurately
- Identify and resolve payment discrepancies, ensuring correct reimbursement
- Reconcile electronic remittance advice (ERA) and explanation of benefits (EOBs)
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Manage aging reports and follow up on unpaid claims and patient balances
- Work closely with patients on outstanding balances, explaining charges and payment options
- Coordinate with front desk and treatment coordinators to ensure proper patient billing practices
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and insurance regulations
- Keep detailed and accurate patient account records
- Assist in training staff on billing best practices when necessary
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 2 years of dental billing experience in a multi-location practice or DSO setting preferred
- Knowledge: Familiarity with CDT codes, PPO, and insurance verification processes
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental) and clearinghouses
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with insurance companies, providers, and patients
- Detail-Oriented: Ability to analyze EOBs, detect discrepancies, and resolve billing issues efficiently
- Problem-Solving: Ability to research and resolve denied claims and patient billing inquiries
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with RCM platforms or third-party billing services
- Understanding of dental insurance contracts and fee schedules
Salary:
- $22/hr - $25/hr
- Based on experience
