Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Surgical Acute Unit is a fast paced dynamic nursing unit dedicated to providing excellence in surgical patient care. The incumbent will use the nursing process to provide patient care to a variety of surgical patients including short stay joint replacements to complex abdominal surgeries. The ideal candidate is self directed and able to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve expected patient outcomes. Strong communication skills are necessary to facilitate timely discharge of patients. The incumbent shall demonstrate behaviors consistent with the core (Mercy) values in support with Mercy General Hospital and the Mission and Philosophy of Dignity Health

Qualifications
Start date: Monday 4/1/2024
To qualify, must have CA RN license by 3/22/24
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing required;
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience
- Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state
- BLS certification - American Heart Association
- ACLS certification - American Heart Association
- Additional certifications may be required based on population(s) served and services provided
- Ability to:
- Deliver excellence in patient care through assessing formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals planning and implementing intervention and evaluating patient care outcomes.
- Read analyze and interpret hospital policies and procedures professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Write reports and procedures and document in the medical record.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers managers patients physicians family members and the general public.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as weights dosages flow rates proportions percentages and volume.
- Apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Critically think and problem solve.
- Read write and speak English.
- Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record
- Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks
- Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays
