The Radiological Technologist applies the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in diagnostic radiology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain patient's clinical history and lab work, documenting information for licensed practitioners.
- Position and immobilize patients for optimal anatomical area demonstration, respecting patient comfort and ability.
- Apply radiation protection principles to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
- Perform radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment and accessories.
- Verify informed consent and complete pre- and post-procedure documentation.
- Assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures.
- Complete timeout as required per policy.
- Identify, prepare, and administer medications/contrast as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
- Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in patient medical records.
- Evaluate images for technical quality.
- Document patient dose exposures.
- Interact professionally with physicians, technologists, hospital staff, patient family members, and patients.
Requirements
- Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute (preferred).
- Certification and registration with ARRT (required).
- State licensure (preferred, unless required by state where job is performed).
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
