What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Care Aide position at Mercy House of the Southern Tier?
Summary:
The Resident Care Aide assists Residents of Mercy House and works in partnership with Guthrie Hospice, other staff, volunteers, and families to ensure quality care for our terminally ill residents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Support Mercy House Mission, Vision and Values.
2. Assess daily needs of residents, follows Guthrie Hospice plan of care.
3. Reports to Senior Admissions Navigator, RN or On-Call RN of any changes in resident’s condition and response to treatment/medications.
4. Assists families in care of residents.
5. Provide personal care, treatments and administer medications per Hospice Plan of Care.
6. Assist with appropriate pain/symptom management per Guthrie Hospice Plan of Care and reports response to treatment /medications to On-Call RN or Senior Admissions Navigator, RN.
7. Uses equipment and supplies safely, effectively and efficiently.
8. Assist with light housekeeping (i.e. take out trash, restock resident rooms, etc.) cleaning dishes, making beds, and laundry as needed.
9. Document changes in resident’s condition and update Resident Care Plan.
10. Answer Resident call bell as soon as possible.
11. Check on residents every 30 minutes or as needed. Spend time with Residents when able.
12. Provide residents and families emotional support.
13. Know and respect resident rights, privacy and confidentiality.
14. Participate in team staff meetings as scheduled.
15. Knowledge of Complaint and Incident procedures.
16. Knowledge of House Rules, Fire and Disaster procedures.
17. Knowledge of Guthrie Hospice role as partner in resident’s end of life care.
18. Report all incident/complaints to on-call RN or designee.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Work experience as Nursing Assistant, or Home Health Aide preferred.
2. Community (Home Health, Hospice) experience preferred.
3. Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with sick and/or irritable residents with terminal illness and with families in high stress situations.
4. Dependable and flexible
5. Professional appearance.
Working Conditions:
1. Duties include standing and walking 80%5of time
2. Requires ability to bend, kneel and lift 24 pounds
3. Possible exposure to infection, communicable disease, blood and bodily fluids.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
