Job Summary :
The Housing Mobility Counselor will play a critical role in supporting individuals and families participating in the Section 8 or RAP programs as they transition to well-resourced communities. This position involves providing comprehensive housing mobility counseling, consumer support services, and tenant education. Key responsibilities include conducting landlord outreach and engagement, motivational interviewing, and delivering workshops and training sessions to help participants overcome housing barriers. The Housing Mobility Counselor will also support landlord recruitment efforts and ensure all program participants meet eligibility criteria while adhering to housing compliance standards. This role focuses on assisting both families and individuals within the metropolitan Hartford area.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Recruitment of eligible program participants.
- Schedule and conduct initial enrollment according to program procedures, including interviewing clients and coordinating application forms.
- Develop and support family plans with objectives, services to be provided, milestones for completion of key elements and timetables.
- Provide families with detailed information about locational options in opportunity areas, assess schooling needs of each child in the family and make attempts to refer families to an area where family needs are best met. Make appropriate referrals for needed services to help remove barriers for a successful mobility move (i.e. credit repair, substance abuse);
- Assist families with transitions after their move, including help in locating schools, churches, childcare, employment, social and medical services.
- Actively identify, educate and recruit new landlords in high opportunity areas to rent to families in the housing mobility program.
- Maintain required records of counseling services provided and the referrals made for each family to include follow-up telephone calls per policy.
- Perform duties of the position with minimal direction and complete work tasks in a time-sensitive environment.
- Adapt well to changes in work environment, manage competing demands, create, interpret and maintain data systems. Assist when needed in all aspects of temporary and permanent relocation of public housing residents.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
