Education: Must have a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or a related field, e.g., social work.
Compensation: $27 - $32/hour
Schedule: Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Every Other Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, (rotating 32hr/40hr work weeks)
In the Counselor role, you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Counsel with assigned residents weekly

Lead each counselee through the Choices that Bring Change counseling model and complete all associated paperwork, including required readings, required assignments; review each once they are submitted by the counselee

Maintain electronic file for each counselee including counseling notes, confidentiality agreements, releases of information, media release, commitment forms, and all other required forms outlined in the Counseling Manual

Schedule and assist with 90-day resident evaluations for each resident along with Program Director and counselors

Communicate residents’ progress with parents/guardians/support people on a regular basis and ensure family sessions are being conducted throughout a resident’s stay.

Help facilitate conflict resolution when necessary with other residents and/or staff

Confront counselees and address issues when appropriate. This may include placing a counselee on benchmarks, probation, growth and development plan.

When appropriate, support home staff who have given Training Opportunities and Consequences to a resident, by recommending assignments that may be the most helpful for that specific counselee

Meet with the medical/wellness team regularly regarding the counselee’s medication, medical status, and/or mental health concerns

Provide input with medical staff prior to a counselee attending their psychiatric appointments

Ensure that you are aware of all follow-up from psychiatric appointments, including medication changes

Attend weekly staff meetings. This includes Team Meetings, Aftercare Meetings, Wellness-Team Meetings (when the meeting includes your counselee).

Consult with Nutrition Manager and/or Fitness Manager (where applicable), or equivalent local professional personnel, regarding residents who struggle with eating disorders or who begin showing eating disordered behavior

Facilitate group counseling when appropriate

Complete discharge summary within the required timeframe when a resident exits the program

Mercy’s Residential counseling Program is voluntary, biblically-based, and helps young women ages 13–32 break free from life-controlling issues and situations, including anxiety, depression, abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, addictions, unplanned pregnancy, and sex trafficking. These residential services are offered free-of-charge. The Mercy Multiplied Center for Wellness and Counseling is Mercy’s free-of-charge Outpatient counseling Program for men and women aged 13 and older. Our Outreach Services train and resource men and women to effectively support and minister to those who are hurting and struggling through workshops, videos, podcasts, discipleship teaching, and other practical resources.
