Overview:
The HIS Specialist II supports the Health Information Services Department with maintaining and protecting the medical record as a legal document. Ability to perform a variety of technical and clerical functions in the HIS department in accordance with department policies and procedures is required. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of guidelines and applicable federal/state laws and accreditation standards related to health information management. Responsible for coordinating processes when medical records are received, filed, processed, scanned, analyzed, completed, released etc., in a timely and accurate manner to support patient care and patient billing. Makes decisions covered by standard practice instruction. Has moderate internal and external contacts which require good oral communication skills to interact with hospital staff and the public.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Licensure: None
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in HIM/medical records and Minimum 1 year of experience with ROI, MPI, and/or Analysis.
- Working knowledge of medical record regulatory requirement
- Ability to type 35 words per minute,
- Ability to 10-key, Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks,and ability to maintain a positive presence. - Intermediate Analytical - Intermediate
- Problem Solving Skills - Basic Data Analysis Skills - Basic Research Skills - Intermediate Computer Skills - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Working knowledge of the health record - Basic EHR knowledge
- Certifications: None
- Preferred Licensure: RHIT or RHIA
- Preferred Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in an acute care medical records department, Minimum 1 year of experience in ROI or MPI Role in an acute care setting, and medical Terminology.
