Med Surg Overview:
Mercy Fort Smith’s Med Surg Service Line is made up of 7 specialty units that will provide experience with patient populations with a varying range of diagnoses and care needs. Functionally, these units house and care for patients who are preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. While you will have a “home unit”, we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties to provide a strong foundational knowledge of all types of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, etc. Whether you are a new grad nurse looking to build a strong base before launching into your future career/educational plans or an experienced nurse who enjoys variety in their every day work, Med Surg is the place for you!
Oncology Unit Details:
- Patient Population: close monitoring, nursing care, holistic and compassionate care and services to patients with endocrinology diagnosis and oncology diagnoses including care of the terminally ill and hospice respite patients.
- This unit has various support areas such as a chapel, washer/dryer for family, sitting/family/dining
- Career Advancement Opportunity: Chemotherapy Certification
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 6:1
- # of Beds: 23
- UAP to patient ratio: 8:1

Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; Consideration will be given for comparable education experience and successful licensure.
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining a current LPN license within the hiring state in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all State Board of Nursing requirements
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support Certification through an American Heart Association approved program
