Location: Syosset, Long Island
The children in our START with HOPE Program are unaccompanied by their parents/guardians. Our goal is provide for their medical health, mental health and education while their sponsors arranged. This is a short-term program but critical to assist our children in their acclimation to the U.S. Most of our children come from Central or South America, but some children are expected to come from Afghanistan. They often speak very little English, so bilingual skills are a must!
SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the LPN will be responsible in providing the best possible nursing care to our children. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs. Bilingual Spanish OR Persian (Farsi, Dari, or Pashto).
Brief outline of essential tasks:
- Conduct Physical Health Assessments for Infants, Children, Adolescents, including HIV Risk Assessments, Safety Assessments, General First Aid and Triage Activities
- Perform medical orders (tests, tasks, hospitalizations, etc.) as ordered by physician
- Ensure required documentation for all case actions (medical notes) are completed within established timeframes.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff.
- Maintain a safe and secure medical environment for clients
- Take vital signs, heights, and weights; document observations and activities
- Provide immunizations
- Provide first aid and emergency care as needed
- Obtain certain lab specimens
- Administer hearing and vision tests
