MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, which provides a vital lifesaving link to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas through ambulance and emergency services. The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with board certified physicians and advanced level practitioners who are well-trained to treat emergency needs. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

- As a Medical Assistant at MercyOne, you will Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
- Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
- Obtain and record vital signs including but not limited to, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problems.
- Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, or topically.
- May perform routine tests including but not limited to EKG’s and Point of Care testing.
- Communicate with patients regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the physician.
- Prepare and clean instruments for sterilization and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
- Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
- Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
- Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
- Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
- Days - 64h pp. 3.5 days per week/one half day
- 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
General Requirements:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
