Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Pharmacy Tech Trainee.

As a Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, you will report to the Lead Pharmacist or in their absence, the Retail Pharmacy Supervisor. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatrics. Tasks require a moderate amount of independent judgement, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.

• Rotating shifts

General Requirements:

• Greets and assists patients/customers in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner
• Communicates effectively with colleagues and customers alike, being a good listener and adjusting style as needed
• Files prescriptions or other paperwork, stocks bottles and vials and performs other clerical duties as necessary or requested
• Collects accurate patient demographic, allergy and medication data from patients and caregivers
• Utilizes pharmacy dispensing software to accurately input patient and third-party information, and process new and refill prescriptions following safety procedures to ensure pharmacist involvement in any process that would involve professional judgment.

Education:

• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
• Typing, clerical and science background desirable.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
