The Opportunity
Are you an engineer with a passion for business development and medical innovation? Join Merge as a Business Development Engineer and play a pivotal role in helping inventors, hospitals, startups, and medtech companies turn ideas into functional medical devices. You’ll combine your technical expertise with strategic sales skills to identify new opportunities, assess project feasibility, and guide clients through the design, prototyping, and commercialization process.
What You’ll Do
🔹 Identify & Develop New Business
· Research and engage inventors, hospitals, startups, innovation labs, and medtech companies to explore project opportunities.
· Present Merge’s engineering, prototyping, and commercialization services via phone, video, and in-person meetings.
· Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate technical feasibility, cost, and development timelines for potential projects.
🔹 Provide Technical Expertise in Sales Discussions
· Understand client design challenges and recommend solutions based on Merge’s capabilities.
· Work with engineering teams to develop high-level project scopes, feasibility assessments, and budget estimates.
· Bridge the gap between customer needs, technical solutions, and business strategy.
🔹 Develop Proposals & Support Sales Negotiations
· Create detailed proposals outlining the phased development approach from concept to commercialization.
· Assist in contract negotiations, ensuring a smooth transition from business development to project execution.
🔹 Represent Merge at Industry Events
· Attend medtech conferences, startup accelerators, and investor forums to build relationships.
· Participate in panel discussions, product demos, and networking events to promote Merge’s expertise.
🔹 Customer Relationship Management
· Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding them through the device development process.
· Track interactions and project progress using CRM tools while maintaining an active sales pipeline.
What We’re Looking For
ü 2 years of experience in medical device engineering, product development, or technical sales.
ü Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
ü Strong understanding of medical device design, prototyping, materials, and regulatory considerations.
ü Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts to non-technical audiences.
ü Experience with SolidWorks, CAD, prototyping tools, and manufacturing processes is a plus.
ü Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
ü Willing to travel (10-20%) for client meetings, trade shows, and conferences.

· Base Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 (based on experience).
· Performance-Based Commission: Uncapped earnings tied to new business won.
