Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join our team in an IL4 and FedRAMP environment. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both Windows and Linux systems, a solid foundation in AWS, and experience with a range of security and administrative tools. This role requires strong capabilities in system hardening, vulnerability management, and SIEM operations.

This is a key role and the practitioner will accelerate many initiatives, serve as a technical point of escalation, and be saddled with numerous priorities. This resource will also provide technical guidance for the standup of Meridian LMS into a GovCloud environment. Expertise of controls and regulatory frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, SOC2, etc.) is preferred.

Key Responsibilities :

  • System Administration & Engineering :

Administer and engineer solutions for both Windows and Linux environments

  • Implement and manage systems hardening protocols to ensure compliance with security standards and have experience with tools such as SteelCloud
  • AWS Management :
  • Deploy, manage, and secure resources in AWS

  • Utilize AWS security features, Network Security Groups (NSGs), and AWS Config for maintaining compliance and security posture
  • Experience with AWS services such as AWS Image Builder and AWS CloudWatch
  • Security & Vulnerability Management :
  • Conduct regular vulnerability scans using tools like Tenable Nessus

  • Perform CVE engineering and remediation
  • Manage and configure SIEM tools (LogRhythm, Elastic, Splunk, or similar) to handle logs and security events.
  • Work with the ISSO to review and remediate POAMs
  • Proxy Servers & Web Application Firewalls :
  • An understanding of proxy servers is key to administering and configuring proxy servers, load balancers, and web application firewalls

  • This overall requires a strong networking foundation within AWS
  • Tools & Technologies :
  • Utilize security tools like Trend Micro, Redis, Burp Suite, Fortify, Ivanti, and Elastic

  • Manage certificate authorities and ensure proper deployment and renewal of digital certificates
  • Handle and support LDAP directory services and Microsoft IIS
  • Compliance & STIGs :
  • Apply and manage Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) using tools like OpenSCAP

  • Ensure systems are compliant with IL4 requirements and perform automatic scanning and hardening
  • Ensure scans are read and alerts are addressed
  • General IT Operations :
  • Work with ticketing systems such as JIRA and ServiceNow (SNOW) for issue tracking and resolution

  • Possess understanding of federal processes such as ConMon and CCB
  • Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong experience in system administration for both Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services and security practices
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and CVE remediation
  • Proficient in the use of SIEM tools for log management and security monitoring
  • Familiarity with proxy servers, web application firewalls, and certificate management
  • Understanding of FedRAMP compliance standards and security hardening practices
  • US Citizenship is required for this role
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Security Specialty, or similar
  • Experience with 3rd party and AWS-native hardening tools
  • Knowledge of SQL database management and hands-on experience
  • Familiarity with security tools that cover areas including EDR, MFA, and code vulnerability scanning
  • Experience in managing and securing applications and infrastructure in a highly regulated environment
  • Experience with Terraform scripting

    The compensation for this position is $135,000 to $160,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, 7 paid holidays and flexible paid time off.
