What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Meridian Lightweight Technologies?
Primary Purpose of Position
To provide financial support and advice to the Plant Controller, Plant General Manager and Chief Financial Officer and Plant Teams, as required. Be the subject matter expert on all cost/inventory related transactions for the MPA Facility.
Major Responsibilities of Position
- Accounting functions: Complete understanding of SCAR (Standard Cost Activity Report) and how it relates to costing of inventory and related relationship with the financial statements. Understand the part cost structure, how Engineering’s role impacts the financial output of SCAR. Be main contact for budgeting/forecasting relating to cost of goods sold, inventory levels and the related areas.
- ERP: Understand how the part cost structure works and how it relates to gross profit, cost of goods sold and overall profitability. Be the subject matter expert on SCAR and all related inventory transactions. Be able to update standard cost items.
- Lean: Responsible assisting the Lean/CI teams.
- Reporting: Responsible for analysis & reporting relating to above responsibilities. Prepare financial statements, schedules & government reports. Fulfill audit requirements and corporate reporting requests. Responsible for month end variance analysis on cost of goods sold and inventory accounts.
- Communication: Internal / External Contacts: Liaison with internal/external employees, managers, auditors (and completing their requests), outside customers, corporate officers, other companies. Facilitating communication, change, and progress. Main contact with shipping department on fulfilling customer shipments.
- Goal Setting: Prioritizing activities to ensure timely, accurate completion of tasks necessary to fulfill team and company goals.
- Training: Ensuring that adequate training (accounting systems & policies) and tools to complete the job are provided.
- Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise.

- Knowledge and adherence to relevant procedures and legislation.
Educational and Certification Background
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business - Essential
- Progressive Cost Accounting Experience, Minimum of 3 years - Essential
- CPA or CMA Designation or International Equivalent - Desirable
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,685.00 - $100,914.00 per year
