Description:
This position supports our recreation and events team by assisting with youth and adult sports leagues, coaching clinics, event planning and sponsorships, and programming activities at the Snell Towar Recreation Center.
Duties:
Adult and Youth Sport Management - 50% of time
1. Assist with after-hour sports leagues
2. Assist with equipment management
3. Develop a new sports league/activity with the assistance of the Recreation Specialists
Snell-Towar Recreation Center Programming - 25% of time
1. Assist with a needs survey of the residents
2. Staff the recreation center when open for residents
3. Develop and implement youth after school programming
4. Develop and implement adult events
Community Event Planning - 20% of time
1. Assist the Recreation Specialists in planning and attending community events
2. Assist in developing new community events as requested by residents
Other Projects - 5% of time
1. Assist with the Department's memorial and amenity inventory software (See My Legacy)
2. Assist with grant preparation and submittal
3. Assist with policy and procedure development
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• In possession of, or working toward, a degree in Parks & Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
• Possession of a valid State of Michigan Operator's License.
• Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations, specifically the Township Park Ordinance and rules.
• Ability to work other than normal business hours.
• Ability to work effectively within deadlines, under stress and with changing work priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience working with people and/or volunteers to accomplish a common goal.
• Proficiency and confidence during public speaking
• A passion for outdoors, recreation, community organizing, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Interns will spend approximately 50% of their time in the field, and 50% in the office. This remains flexible and often travels to other locations regularly to work in diverse settings including outdoor weather conditions. The position may require working hours outside of regular business hours. Outdoor work is a requirement, and candidates must be able to traverse rough terrain and navigate dense vegetation in all weather conditions. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds without injury and be prepared for physically demanding work. Applicants must be willing to use weed whippers, hedge trimmers, pole saws, hand tools (loppers, saws) & comply with proper PPE workplace protocol.
Time Period of Position:
• Up to 30 hours/week is expected. Hours will generally be Monday - Saturday.
