Our Manager Trainee Program provides a solid foundation for men and women to build a successful management career in the solid waste industry through extensive on-the-job training as well as assistance in securing appropriate credentials and licenses.
Position Summary
Meridian Waste offers the Manager Trainee Program at hauling and landfill facilities across the companys operating footprint, which includes six states. The position serves in an operations role with the goal of attaining a supervisor and/or entry management role to lead teams of both front line and office staff.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
A successful Manager Trainee candidate must have excellent communication skills and work well with others in a fast paced and ever-changing industry.
Other responsibilities include:
- Manage daily operations of the hauling or landfill location.
- Implement operating procedures to ensure all laws and policies are followed.
- Maintain utmost concern for safety and ensure all procedures are followed every time to ensure a safe work environment for employees and the greater community.
- Ensure quality customer care is provided to all customers.
- Assist with management of staffing levels.
- Interact with customers and local, state and federal government employees to resolve customer service concerns and ensure regulatory compliance standards are met.
- Ensure maximum productivity and establish productivity improvement goals where needed.
- Responsible for the adherence to operating standards, the development of supervisory goals and objectives, and the management of labor hours and disposal expenses.
- Provide coaching and counseling for staff development. Train supervisors to interpret and understand productivity and other line of business reports.
- Work with the General Manager and other department managers to ensure the long-term success of the location.
- Support good working relations between management and employees.
Other Abilities
- Maintain firm knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong motivation and leadership skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, customers and vendors
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must take and pass drug test and consent to a background check.
- Must take and pass other pre-employment assessments.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Must be willing to relocate to different operating locations as needed
- Must be physically present at location(s)
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures
- May be exposed to solvents and chemicals, and refuse in trucks
- Other risks associated with working around machines, tools, and trucks
- Ability to lift and/or move 100 pounds or more
- Ability to organize office systems through adjusting, connecting, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, or folding for the purpose of proper records development and/or management
- Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard, mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday white seated at a desk or workstation
