What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Merit Distribution Group?
The Buyer represents the organization in a purchasing capacity, acquiring product that is intended for resale, ensuring profitably, maintaining inventory levels to ensure we can fill order requests, as well as ensures we maintain acceptable inventory turns.
Essential Functions (Key Responsibilities)
- Daily review of assigned product lines in multiple distribution centers to maintain adequate inventory using Eclipse purchasing software.
- Analyze and correctly interpret sales and inventory reports and data.
- Maintain awareness of changes in the marketplace that may affect the availability, demand for, or cost of goods.
- Work alongside management and product category managers to achieve common goals
- Negotiate with vendors to reduce cost and increase margins.
- Ability to multi-task, take initiative in solving problems and work effectively with a variety of people and work styles.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with vendor partners and assist in negotiation of programs.
- Report on weekly and monthly KPIs, offering suggestions for improvement in areas of responsibility
- Special projects as directed
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience also considered.
- 2-5 years of purchasing experience preferred with international procurement experience and sourcing activities in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Possess understanding of international shipping terms and global logistics (inbound freight, tariff classification, harmonized tariff codes and customs documentation).
- Experience with Eclipse or similar inventory management software helpful.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and reasoning skills
- Proficient using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc).
- Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Must represent the company in a professional manner in both personal interaction and appearance.
- Must be able to effectively communicate both written and orally with employees, management, and customers.
- Maintain attention to detail, heavy workload and a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently
