Our structured Electrical Apprentice Leveling System—comprising Level I, II, and III—guides apprentices through their development. The Electrical Apprentice III (AP-III) role is designed for those who have completed two or three years as an apprentice and two or three years of formal apprenticeship schooling. The AP III role is designed as a comprehensive two-year journey. This two-year progression is tailored to equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to prepare you thoroughly for the journeyman examination. Our goal is to foster your growth and proficiency in the electrical trade, ensuring you are well-prepared to test and achieve journeyman status at Merit Electric. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Reporting structure will be assigned per project.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Independently handle a wider range of electrical tasks, including complex installations and repairs under direct supervision of your direct report. Only once a task has been mastered and your direct report has approved, may you work unsupervised
- Be able to interpret electrical diagrams and drawings, blueprints, and work packages
- Conduct electrical tests and quality control checks as assigned
- Mentor and supervise API and APII apprentices, you are proficient in as approved by your direct report, fostering a supportive learning environment
- Attend advanced coursework and training sessions provided by Merit
- Accurately input data on Merit daily production tracker
- Promote and ensure adherence to safety protocols among team members
- Comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) standards and requirements.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency
- A foundation in Math at the Algebra 1 level.
- Minimum 2 years electrical trade experience
- Completion of Level II accredited apprenticeship class
- Enrollment in accredited apprenticeship 3rd year class
- Demonstrated proficiency in electrical skills and safety practices
- Knowledge of electrical codes and safety procedures, including the ability to seek out and understand relevant information within the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Near completion of apprenticeship program, preparing for electrical Journeyman’s exam
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both extreme hot and cold conditions
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to regularly attend classroom education and labs
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
- Ability to dig trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment
- Ability to work 40 hour weeks, night shifts and overtime as required
- Ability to work in restricted areas (manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, etc.)
