Lab Assistant, PRN

Job Summary

Performs activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment

Essential Functions

• Assists laboratory staff in routine tests used in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Ensures equipment is in good working order. Understand mechanics of equipment and reports malfunctions to supervisor. Understands safety hazards common to the laboratory.
• Logs lab procedures completed. Processes related paperwork.
• Assists laboratory staff in routine tests used in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Performs microscopic examination of body cells to identify abnormalities.
• Operates a wide variety of laboratory instrumentation, prepares accurate reports such as Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
• Utilizes computer system for data storage and retrieval.
• Maintains a clean, safe and well-stocked work area including records, supplies and equipment.
• Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
• Accurately collects improvement performance data as directed.
• Actively participates in the development and implementation of process improvements.
• Follows company policies to ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies. Utilizes universal precautions in handling infectious material.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required
• Less than 2 years Lab preferred

• Continuing education of new technologies.
• Excellent time management skills
• Strong organization & communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
• Superior ability to perform laboratory testing.
• Ability to handle high volumes of work without error.
• Knowledge of laboratory and quality control procedures.

Licenses and Certifications

• AHA or ARC BLS Certification due within 30 days of employment required
